“Beloved Family-Owned Store Clarkes of Sussex to Close After 40 Years”

Date:

Customers are expressing deep sadness following the announcement that a family-owned art and stationery store is closing its doors for good.

Clarkes of Sussex made the emotional revelation via social media, stating that the time has arrived to close its Burgess Hill store in West Sussex after over four decades of operation.

The store’s closure is scheduled for April, although the exact date has not yet been disclosed. The news has garnered responses from devoted patrons.

One customer conveyed, “Your absence will be keenly felt. Visiting your store has always been a delightful experience.” Another lamented, “This is truly disheartening news.”

A third individual shared, “I have been a patron of your store for many years, and you have consistently been helpful, respectful, and kind.” Another commented, “I am truly saddened by this news – your store is exceptional, and your staff are wonderful.”

Last year, Clarkes of Sussex shut down its Brighton branch after trading for 25 years. The company maintains other stores throughout Sussex, including one in Haywards Heath.

Additionally, Clarkes in Lewes, which operates under separate ownership, is set to close in March.

Jay Patel, the proprietor of Clarkes of Sussex, took to social media to announce the closure of the Burgess Hill store. He expressed mixed emotions, stating, “It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Clarkes closure.

“After over 40 years of serving this wonderful community, and my own 35-year journey here, the time has come for us to bid farewell this April.

“Above all, I will cherish the memories of you, your kindness, loyalty, and the countless conversations we have shared. I have had the privilege of witnessing your families grow and witnessing friendships blossom over the years.

“You have been more than just customers. You have been an integral part of my life. Thank you for unwavering support during both the good and challenging times.

“Thank you for embracing me and my team into your lives. Your support has meant more to me than words can convey in full.

“While this chapter is drawing to a close, the memories, friendships, and connections we have forged will forever remain with me. I will dearly miss seeing you, conversing with you, and being a part of your daily lives.

“From the depths of my heart, thank you for being such a significant part of my journey. I wish you joy, good health, and abundant success in the days ahead.”
