A well-known TikTok personality, celebrated for her charitable efforts aiding homeless individuals, has sadly passed away. Shirley Raines, an advocate recognized for distributing food and assistance to those in need on Los Angeles’ Skid Row, a region with a high number of homeless people in the United States, died at her residence in Nevada at the age of 58.
Shirley, also known as Ms. Raines online, was the founder of the non-profit organization Beauty 2 The Streetz. She garnered a large following on social media platforms, with over six million combined followers on TikTok and Instagram. Through her online presence, she showcased videos of herself providing support to homeless individuals and offering makeovers to women in an effort to change societal perceptions of them. She was known for addressing people she met on the streets as “kings” or “queens” to show respect.
Recognized as CNN’s Hero of the Year, Shirley received a $100,000 grant to continue her work with Beauty 2 The Streetz. The organization confirmed her passing, expressing deep sorrow and emphasizing her dedication to serving homeless communities in Los Angeles and Nevada. They praised her tireless advocacy, compassion, and commitment in using her platform to elevate the voices of those in need and provide dignity, resources, and hope to underserved populations.
Shirley’s sister, Sheila, discovered her lifeless body near her bed, leaving the entire family in shock. Despite being in good health, the cause of her death remains undisclosed. In a 2020 interview, Shirley expressed her desire to redefine the perception of homelessness, emphasizing that individuals without homes are not devoid of love, jobs, family, or connections. She aimed to challenge the stereotypes associated with homelessness and highlight the various facets of poverty and wealth.
