A couple identified as Christine and Stephen Routledge from Berwick tragically lost their lives in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle (HGV). The incident occurred on the A1 near Buckton on January 14, claiming the lives of both individuals and their pet dog who was also in the vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene promptly after the crash that happened around 7:40 am. Unfortunately, Mr. Routledge, aged 64, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Mrs. Routledge, aged 66, was transported to the hospital for treatment but later passed away. Their dog Bear, who was traveling with them in the car, also suffered injuries and did not survive.
A man in his thirties was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released pending further investigation, as reported by Chronicle Live.
