“Bet365’s Denise Coates Nets £260M, Tops UK’s Highest Earners”

Date:

Denise Coates, the prominent figure behind Bet365, has recently received an additional windfall of £260 million, bringing her total earnings over the past 15 years to £2.7 billion. This significant payout further solidifies her position as one of the highest-paid executives and top-earning women in the UK.

According to the latest financial reports of her family’s gambling enterprise, Coates garnered a salary of £104 million in the previous year, marking a notable increase from £94.7 million in 2024. Additionally, Bet365 Group substantially raised cash dividends to family stakeholders, reaching £313.6 million, a threefold increase compared to the previous year. Coates, aged 58, is set to receive a substantial portion of this amount due to her majority ownership in the company.

Although the £260 million windfall is substantial, it falls short of her record-breaking £469 million payout in 2021. Nonetheless, it surpasses the earnings of other notable corporate executives in the UK. Notably, Eamonn O’Hare of Zegona received £131 million, while AstraZeneca’s Pascal Soriot earned £14.7 million in 2024, and Melrose Industries’ Peter Dilnot pocketed £45.5 million in the same period.

The latest windfall is expected to further boost the Coates family’s wealth, which was estimated at £9.44 billion in the most recent Sunday Times Rich List, ranking them as the 16th wealthiest individuals in Britain. Coates, known for her aversion to public attention, founded Bet365 in a modest setting in 2000 and has since seen remarkable success in the online gambling industry.

The Coates family has also been recognized for their significant tax contributions to the UK government, with the group’s total tax payment amounting to £481.5 million, an increase from £364 million in 2024. Furthermore, substantial charitable donations amounting to £130 million were allocated to the Denise Coates Foundation in the previous year.

The Foundation, overseen by trustees, distributed funds to various institutions, with notable contributions made to The University Hospitals of North Midlands Charity. These donations will support the acquisition of essential medical equipment and facilities, benefiting patients in need of specialized care.

In a separate development, Bet365 reported a 9% increase in revenue to over £4 billion in the fiscal year ending in March. However, the company’s pre-tax profit decreased significantly to £348.7 million during the same period. The impact of recent tax changes on online gambling, as announced in the Budget by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, is yet to be reflected in the company’s financial statements.

Despite the evolving regulatory landscape, Bet365 remains committed to ensuring a safe and responsible gambling environment for its customers. The company continues to invest significantly in promoting safer gambling practices and collaborates with regulatory bodies to uphold industry standards.
