In the ongoing search for 11 individuals on board a missing plane suspected to have crashed, a body has been discovered alongside scattered aircraft wreckage. The aircraft disappeared while approaching a mountainous area on Sulawesi island, Indonesia, during adverse weather conditions. The rescue team recovered a man’s body deep in a ravine on the slope of Mount Bulusaraung, where additional aircraft parts, including passenger seats and sections of the frame, were also found.
The body, yet to be identified, is believed to be related to the turboprop ATR 42-500 that vanished from radar en route from Yogyakarta to Makassar. The plane, operated by Indonesia Air Transport, was carrying eight crew members and three passengers on a maritime surveillance mission when it went missing. A rescue team located parts of the aircraft and visually identified what is presumed to be the engine in the Leang-Leang area of Maros.
The discovery of the main sections of the aircraft has aided in narrowing the search area, facilitating a more focused rescue operation to locate any potential survivors. Despite challenging weather conditions, search and rescue teams are persistently advancing towards the wreckage site. Over 100 personnel, including elite army forces, have been deployed to various sectors to navigate the difficult terrain and adverse weather in locating and rescuing any survivors.
