In the search for a missing student, a body has been found, according to official sources.
The individual in question, James Gracey, aged 20, was last seen at Shoko, a beachfront nightclub located in Villa Olimpica, Barcelona. James, a student at the University of Alabama, was described by his parents, Taras and Therese Gracey, as wearing a white shirt, dark trousers, and a chain with a gold rhinestone cross.
The body was recovered from a depth of 13 feet in the Mediterranean Sea, as reported by local publication La Vanguardia. This discovery came after law enforcement uncovered a significant clue prior to locating the body.
The authorities have not confirmed the identity of the deceased individual. A police statement, when translated, stated, “Good afternoon, we inform you that officers from the Mossos have located the lifeless body of a person in the water in the Somorrostro area. Procedures have been initiated to identify the body.”
The Daily Mail reported that the body has been formally identified as James, and his family has been notified. A police source mentioned the possibility that James may have wandered towards some rocks after a night of drinking, leading to a potential fall into the sea.
An official from Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan regional police force, informed, “A witness passing by observed him leaving the nightclub and heading towards a rocky outcrop.” Earlier, James’s wallet had been discovered on Somorrostro Beach, a popular tourist destination near Shoko.
Following a night out at the nightclub, James got separated from his friends, and subsequent events remain unclear as investigators strive to piece together his movements.
Relatives confirmed that James was reported missing after failing to return to the Airbnb accommodation he had booked with friends. The Gracey family issued a statement describing James as a caring, responsible, and dedicated individual, highlighting his unusual silence as concerning.
The family expressed gratitude for the support received from authorities and the community and requested continued thoughts for James’s well-being as efforts persist to bring him back safely.
Before the tragic discovery of the body, an unsettling finding had emerged during the search operation.
