A woman nearly faced death after spending over £15,000 on a breast augmentation that resulted in uneven breasts due to a leaking implant emitting green fluid.
Lisa Hart, 45, felt dissatisfied with her body post five pregnancies and aimed to enhance her appearance. Wanting to address her self-perceived large 36E breasts, Lisa opted for a breast reduction and reconstruction procedure in Glasgow, costing £15,500.
Following the four-hour surgery in May 2025, Lisa noticed green fluid seeping from her right breast onto her bandages a week later. Despite her concerns, the clinic dismissed the issue as normal. However, over the next month, her right breast showed abnormal healing, leading to a small hole formation.
Experiencing symptoms resembling a fever, Lisa repeatedly raised alarms with the clinic for over a month but felt ignored. By June 2025, she sought medical help, where doctors diagnosed her with sepsis and had to remove the infected implant.
Left with uneven breasts – a B-cup on the right and a C-cup on the left, Lisa had no option but to return to the same clinic for correction as other facilities refused to assist her.
Lisa now aims to caution other women about the risks of cosmetic surgery, emphasizing the importance of being cautious. She urges clinics to be held accountable and emphasizes self-acceptance over pursuing an ideal body image.
Having paid £15,500 for treatments in the UK, Lisa regrets not exploring more cost-effective options like those in Turkey. Her post-surgery experience left her mentally and physically distressed, leading to anxiety and angina due to stress.
Despite the challenges, Lisa hopes her story will raise awareness and prevent similar incidents from befalling other women.
The clinic declined to provide details on individual cases but reiterated their commitment to safe, quality care and prompt support for patients. They emphasize the importance of addressing any post-procedure concerns promptly and transparently to ensure patient safety and satisfaction.
