Among those in attendance were long-time friend and manager Paul Speak, as well as Ricky’s father Ray, brother Matthew, and former partner Jennifer Dooley. The former world champion was found at his £1.7 million home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on September 14, 2023, at the age of 46.
The inquest revealed that Paul Speak discovered Ricky unresponsive at his residence. It was disclosed that Ricky had been last seen alive by family members on September 12, appearing well at the time. However, he failed to attend a scheduled event the following day, leading to Mr. Speak’s visit to collect him for a trip to Manchester Airport on the morning of September 14.
The senior coroner for South Manchester, Alison Mutch, stated during the inquest that despite significant future plans made by Ricky and the absence of any suicide notes, she could not ascertain intent to take his own life. She emphasized that the evidence, including his alcohol consumption and the presence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, left the intention unclear, resulting in a narrative verdict.
