A 12-year-old boy has been paralyzed following a shooting incident during a sleepover at a friend’s house. Myles Beardsley sustained severe injuries after being shot on April 4 while staying over at a friend’s place. His mother, Alora Beardsley, recounted the tragic event that unfolded while they were at home watching a movie, receiving a sudden call about the accident.
Alora shared that Myles had been eager to spend the night at his friend’s house, and after deliberation, they agreed, a decision she now deeply regrets. Doctors revealed that Myles suffered four gunshot wounds to his body and neck, resulting in damage to his spine. The family faced the heart-wrenching news that Myles would be paralyzed from the neck down following a nine-hour surgery to stabilize his spine.
Post-surgery, Myles struggled to communicate and underwent further procedures due to injuries to his trachea and esophagus. The family endured a challenging period by Myles’ side in the hospital, witnessing his resilience and the support he received from loved ones and his teacher.
Despite spending 38 days in intensive care, Myles was eventually moved to the rehabilitation floor to continue his journey towards recovery, where he is striving to regain mobility and independence. Alora expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support for Myles, especially highlighting a heartwarming visit from his beloved teacher and classmates.
The investigation into the shooting incident is ongoing, with reports suggesting that a gun in the house was accessed by one of the children. Alora shared her profound sadness over the consequences of the incident and emphasized the need for caution around firearms.
To assist with expenses during their stay in Seattle for Myles’ treatment, the family is raising funds through a GoFundMe page. Donations can be made to support Myles’ recovery journey.
