Renowned for his vibrant fashion sense, Boy George, a key figure in the music group Culture Club, reflects on his transformation over 45 years since bursting onto the UK music scene. Declaring a newfound sense of tranquility as a ‘calmer chameleon,’ he is parting ways with over 370 items, including flamboyant costumes and accessories, through a grand auction at Julien’s Auctions in LA on July 14, titled Bold Luxury: Boy George Edit.

Anticipated to attract admirers of the iconic singer worldwide, the auction features items with hefty price tags, reflecting the significance of his style evolution. Embracing the spiritual philosophy of ‘The Three Principles,’ George, aged 65, sees this auction as a farewell to the past, allowing space for fresh memories while offering his cherished pieces a new home where they can be cherished anew.

The collection on auction showcases George’s journey from a club enthusiast to a celebrated style icon, featuring outfits worn in music videos, album covers, tours, and TV appearances. Noteworthy items include the pink Dexter Wong ensemble worn on the debut album cover, estimated at $100,000, symbolizing the era-defining hit ‘Karma Chameleon’.

Among the treasures are outfits worn on significant occasions like the Russell Harty chat show appearance in 1983, a black leather jacket from The Blitz club era, and iconic headpieces from renowned designers like Philip Treacy and John Galliano. The array also includes outfits by fashion legends Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier, along with a special purple plaid suit tailored for George’s late mother for a BBC appearance.

Reflecting on his past, George reminisces about his early days in music and his mother’s role in crafting his style. Despite his love for DIY fashion, he now finds solace in simplicity, often blending in with the crowd during his subway rides in London. His recent embrace of ‘The Three Principles’ has brought him inner peace, transforming his approach to public appearances and interactions.

As George looks ahead to his upcoming ventures, including performances with Culture Club and a role in the West End production of Jesus Christ Superstar, he radiates contentment and wisdom gained from years of experience. Encouraging his younger self to savor the moment and choose happiness, he embodies a newfound sense of self-assurance and joy in his current endeavors.
