Boy Suffers Burns in Charging Cable Mishap

Date:

A young boy, aged nine, had a harrowing experience at his residence when a charging cable intertwined with a metal chain around his neck, causing a fire scare. On October 19, Laura Morrow was jolted awake at 5 am to a distressing scene as her son, Ashtyn Pitts, sustained severe burns on his neck and left hand at their home in Jena, Louisiana.

The alarming situation prompted his parents to rush him to the emergency room, followed by immediate transfer to the LSU-Oschner Burn Unit in Shreveport. Ashtyn had been sleeping when his necklace got entangled with his charger, leading his mother to issue a heartfelt warning to other moms about the dangers of leaving tablets charging near beds.

According to his mother’s account on Facebook, Pitts was resting beside his charger, connected to an extension cord, when a slight separation in the connection point allowed the necklace to come into contact with the charger’s prongs. The resulting incident caused a loud bang, awakening the family, with Pitts recounting the panic and the immediate call for help.

The burns inflicted on Pitts were so severe that the chain’s imprint was visibly scorched into his neck. Morrow expressed her emotional turmoil at witnessing her son’s pain and the realization of how close they were to a tragic loss. Fortunately, Ashtyn is currently in stable condition and is expected to fully recover from the ordeal.
