Britain experienced its hottest May on record as temperatures reached 33.5C at Heathrow Airport. The Met Office confirmed this new high, surpassing the previous May record of 32.8C set over 80 years ago. A heatwave across England has led to extreme temperatures, with forecasts suggesting even higher readings on Tuesday.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued yellow and amber heat health alerts for several regions in England, cautioning about the potential strain on health services and the heightened risks for vulnerable individuals. Particularly, the agency warned of a possible increase in fatalities among those aged 65 and above or with preexisting health conditions.
