A British man passed away after falling severely ill at an airport in Turkey just before his return flight. David Kelly, a resident of Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland, was swiftly admitted to intensive care, put into a medically induced coma, and sustained on life support while battling for his life far from home.
His wife, Dawn, stood by his side in a Turkish hospital for a month before he was airlifted back on 8 June via a specialized flying intensive care unit. Despite being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, David peacefully passed away on 18 June, surrounded by his loved ones.
His family shared the heartbreaking news through the Facebook page of their business, Barrhead Joinery. They expressed gratitude for the support received over the years and announced the closure of the business following David’s passing.
A fundraiser recounted how their tranquil holiday in Turkey turned into a harrowing ordeal. David’s sudden deterioration at the airport led to an urgent transfer to intensive care, where he valiantly fought for weeks before peacefully passing away on 18 June.
Described as a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, David was remembered for his selfless nature and unwavering support for others. Tributes from the local community poured in, highlighting his professionalism and kindness.
Donations raised will assist Dawn and the family with funeral costs and contribute to Kidney Research UK and the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
