British Man Dies After Sea Rescue in Fuerteventura

Date:

A tragic incident occurred in Fuerteventura where a British man lost his life after being rescued from the sea by a helicopter. The emergency response took place at Playa de La Escalera near El Cotillo in the northern part of the Canary Island when two individuals were reported to be struggling in the water off the popular beach in La Oliva municipality around 5:30 pm on Thursday.

Rescuers from the Canary Islands Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) located the man using a helicopter. Despite being airlifted to safety, he was found to be in cardiac arrest, prompting immediate CPR efforts during transport to a nearby landing site. Unfortunately, despite the medical attention provided by paramedics, a medical helicopter crew, and local health center staff, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second individual involved managed to exit the sea unassisted and received medical treatment on the beach. The emergency response also involved beach rescue teams, Civil Protection volunteers, local police, and firefighters. The Civil Guard has initiated an investigation and is preparing an official report on the incident.
