A man from Britain was discovered dead with gunshot injuries on Tuesday in St Lucia.
Kenrelle O’Flaherty, aged 26, was on a visit to St Lucia from his residence in Anguilla. He was found shot to death late on Tuesday night in Garrand, Babonneau, situated on the northeastern coast of the island.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force reported that officers at the Babonneau station were informed about a lifeless body near a road at approximately 10:50 pm. Upon reaching the scene, the police found O’Flaherty with visible gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the location.
It is believed that O’Flaherty, originally from London and residing in nearby Anguilla, was on a brief trip to St Lucia. The duration of his stay on the island before the shooting is unknown. A murder investigation has been initiated by the police.
An inside police source stated: “We urge anyone with information to reach out to the major crimes unit. We are interested in knowing the purpose of his visit and the individuals he interacted with in the area.
“Information about the victim is scarce. His British nationality and visit from a nearby island are the only details we have. We need to swiftly uncover the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
This incident follows the discovery of an elderly woman found deceased on a secluded island after being left behind by a cruise ship. Suzanne Rees, aged 80, was reported missing only when she did not show up for dinner, five hours after disappearing on Lizard Island in Queensland, Australia.
The solo traveler had taken part in a guided hike but fell ill and was left behind as the cruise ship sailed to its next destination.
Ms. Rees’s family criticized Coral Expeditions, a company owned by the National Roads and Motorists’ Association (NRMA) in Australia that operates the 60-day cruise, for their “negligence and lack of common sense.”
Mark Fifield, the CEO of Coral Expeditions, mentioned: “The crew alerted authorities about a missing woman, leading to a search and rescue operation by land and sea. Subsequently, Queensland Police informed Coral Expeditions that the woman was found deceased on Lizard Island.
“While investigations are ongoing, we deeply regret this incident and are extending our complete support to the woman’s family.
“Our team has been in touch with the family, offering assistance throughout this challenging time.
“We are collaborating with Queensland Police and other agencies to aid their inquiry. We are refraining from further comments during this investigative process.”
