A British sailor named James Nunan, 34, went missing over a month ago after setting sail near Gran Canaria, Spain, with plans to circumnavigate the globe. Detectives suspect he may have encountered a mishap at sea following a night out on land. His last known sighting was at a kebab shop, where a theft incident helped authorities trace his final steps.
In response to his disappearance, his distressed family has flown to Gran Canaria to assist in the search efforts. The Spanish Civil Guard received information about Nunan reporting his missing passport at a police station early on August 19. Born in the UK, Nunan, also known as Jemsie, was last seen around 6:15 am after visiting an Irish pub named Paddy’s Anchor and later stopping at a kebab shop where his backpack was believed to have been stolen.
Nunan had been planning to sail from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote before embarking on a significant Atlantic Ocean voyage to Brazil. Despite authorities locating his boat approximately 100 miles from Las Palmas, the search for the missing sailor continues. Police are concentrating on the possibility that Nunan may have had an accident at sea, potentially falling from the yacht mast, as his life jacket and climbing equipment were missing from the vessel.
According to a source from the Civil Guard, the leading theory is that Nunan might have encountered difficulties while attempting to ascend the mast in harsh weather conditions. However, investigations are ongoing, and the case remains open as authorities explore all possible leads.
