British Tourist, 75, Dies in Tragic Tenerife Beach Incident

Date:

A 75-year-old British tourist passed away following a swimming incident at El Duque beach in Tenerife. The man was rescued by lifeguards and received immediate medical attention from a doctor, nurse, and paramedics after being pulled from the water in Costa Adeje. Despite efforts to revive him, the pensioner went into cardiac arrest and could not be resuscitated.

Initially thought to be a 70-year-old foreign visitor, it was later confirmed that the deceased was a British national who had recently turned 75. The urban beach of El Duque, renowned for its strong sea currents and Blue Flag status, was the scene of the tragedy. It remains unclear whether the man was alone or accompanied by others at the time of the incident.

An autopsy scheduled in Santa Cruz will determine the exact cause of death, whether from drowning or underlying health conditions. Authorities reported that emergency services responded promptly to the incident, with lifeguards and medical professionals attempting CPR without success. The man was pronounced dead at the beach, with an investigation underway by local authorities.

Tenerife, which witnessed previous sea-related tragedies, including fatal incidents during stormy weather, has faced similar challenges in recent times. In December, multiple fatalities and injuries occurred at natural pools on the island, highlighting the dangers posed by the unpredictable sea conditions in certain areas.
