A senior citizen from Britain has been discovered deceased following his disappearance while on vacation. Iain Stanley, aged 79, was last sighted close to the Perla Marina Hotel in Nerja, situated on the eastern part of the Costa del Sol in Spain, on February 11. He went missing after departing from his holiday residence, with his last known whereabouts documented around 2 pm on that day.
After his wife reported him missing, an inquiry was initiated by the Civil Guard, and sadly, local authorities have now confirmed the discovery of his body. Mr. Stanley, reportedly in good health, was dressed in black jeans, a shirt, and a blue jacket when he was last seen, without his mobile phone or passport. His disappearance was swiftly shared on various local expat Facebook groups, with family members also seeking information on his location.
A search team has located Mr. Stanley’s body near Ladera del Mar and Tamango Hill, an elevated area with ravines dividing Nerja from the neighboring Torrox. Forensic experts have been dispatched to the scene as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his demise.
Spanish authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy to establish the cause of death, indicating no signs of foul play at this stage. Detectives speculate that Mr. Stanley might have become disoriented and lost while out for a walk, as per local reports.
During the search, officials expressed deep concern for the missing man’s welfare, acknowledging the limited information available. One investigator stated, “We’re conducting standard checks at places like hospitals and carrying out physical searches, but have not yielded any results so far.” Another officer remarked on the challenges faced due to the lack of substantial leads beyond his departure from the holiday accommodation.
“It’s a troubling disappearance that is causing significant worry among officers. It’s been five days since he vanished,” added the officer. Police interviewed a taxi driver who reported seeing an individual resembling the missing man in the nearby town of Torrox; however, this lead was subsequently discounted as erroneous.
Following the confirmation of his demise, many individuals have paid tribute and expressed condolences online. Messages of sorrow and sympathy flooded social media platforms, with one person writing, “Terrible news. My thoughts are with his family at this very sad time. RIP, Iain.” Another individual described him as “a true gentleman.”
