An elderly British woman was rescued by helicopter and taken to the hospital in Tenerife after being discovered in a ravine almost 30 hours following her disappearance.
Susan Hornsby, 76, went missing on Friday while on a holiday trip with her husband in Tenerife, prompting a search appeal. Louise Bakewell, concerned about her sister-in-law’s mother, sought help online, describing Susan’s outfit and seeking assistance due to language barriers with local authorities.
After 27 hours of searching, it was reported that Susan had embarked on a three-hour hike and later requested medical aid via email. Despite the involvement of the police and the closure of the British embassy, there were challenges in locating her. The search intensified along a popular walking route near Casa Paca restaurant close to Benijo Beach.
Fortunately, Susan was found alive in a ravine and promptly airlifted to the hospital, bringing relief to her family and friends. The rescuers located her using her IMEI number, and she was swiftly evacuated for medical treatment. Updates on her rescue were shared on social media, expressing gratitude for the assistance received in locating her.
In a message to a Facebook group dedicated to aiding missing persons in Tenerife, Louise confirmed Susan’s discovery and thanked everyone for their support. She advised the importance of enabling phone tracking features for safety purposes, emphasizing the need for caution during solo outings.
