Conservative Party member Kemi Badenoch has been urged to remove the party’s deputy chairman following controversial remarks he made regarding the firebombing of the Prime Minister’s residence on the same day as the anniversary of Jo Cox MP’s assassination.
During a recent exchange with Jeremy Kyle on TalkTV, Shadow Home Office Minister Matt Vickers trivialized the attack on Keir Starmer’s properties and seemed to diminish any Russian involvement. Vickers insinuated that the PM was effectively causing his downfall, and jovially responded to innuendos about sexuality made by Kyle.
Deputy PM David Lammy criticized the senior Tory for appearing to endorse homophobic comments and insisted that he should feel ashamed during discussions at PMQs.
Anna Turley MP of the Labour Party demanded Vickers’ dismissal, condemning his nonchalant attitude towards the attack on a fellow politician’s home. She emphasized the inappropriateness of such behavior on the day commemorating Jo Cox and urged Badenoch to take action promptly.
In a separate incident, Lammy rebuked the Tory deputy chair for his inappropriate reactions to the arson attack, stressing the need for maturity, an apology, and improved behavior.
Two individuals, a Russia-linked Ukrainian and a Romanian, were found guilty of conspiring to damage property in connection with the firebomb plot orchestrated by a mysterious figure known as El Money. The attacks, organized through Telegram, posed a severe threat to residents’ lives and left them in fear.
A Conservative spokesperson defended Vickers, stating that his conduct during the interview was appropriate and respectful to the host, Jeremy Kyle. The party condemned the arson attack and expressed well wishes to the PM and his family.
