Canada’s flag football teams had a successful start at the IFAF World Championship in Düsseldorf, Germany. The Canadian women’s team secured a victory over Panama with quarterback Sara Parker throwing four touchdowns, leading to a 27-14 win. In their match against Brazil, the Canadian women dominated with a 36-6 win, holding a 20-0 lead at halftime. Marianne Quirion and Frédérique Morneau each scored two touchdowns, while Laura Molimard added another.
The Canadian men’s team began with a 26-6 win over Austria. The competition not only aims for a world title but also offers a chance to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The top two teams from the championships will earn spots in the Olympics, marking the sport’s debut in the event.
Both Canadian teams will conclude the group stage with matches against Japan on Friday. The men will play at 2 a.m. ET, and the women’s match will follow at 4:30 a.m. ET. All games can be streamed live on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem.
Originally set to face Nigeria, the Canadian men’s team will now receive an automatic win as Nigeria withdrew from the tournament due to visa issues.
