Canadian striker Promise David is set to make his debut in the Premier League after signing with Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The agreement includes a purchase obligation of $29.7 million US if specific criteria are met.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be moving to the Premier League starting from the next season, with the transfer fee being a record amount for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old forward, who recently extended his contract with Union, had an impressive stint at the club, scoring 41 goals in 82 matches and contributing to their league title win in 2025.
David, who hails from Brampton, Ontario, represented Canada at the World Cup, scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has also showcased his talent with four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team. Although he initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 team, FIFA approved his switch to represent Canada following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch in 2025.
Having played in various countries such as Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before moving to Belgium in 2024, David brings a wealth of experience to Brighton. The club’s sporting director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring abilities and international exposure as valuable assets for the team. Brighton, a consistent Premier League side, finished in eighth place last season.
