“CCTV Reveals Rapist Stalking Nightclub, Drugging Women”

Date:

A disturbing incident captured on CCTV revealed a rapist stalking a nightclub in Scotland just before drugging and sexually assaulting two women. Kenan Baki, aged 46, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for raping one woman and sexually assaulting another after spiking their drinks at Society nightclub in Kirkcaldy, Fife, on September 2, 2023. Prosecutors at the High Court in Edinburgh presented footage showing the perpetrator moving around the club, seemingly scanning tables for unattended drinks while targeting solitary women.

Additional CCTV footage shown to the jury depicted a woman collapsing in a chair at Baki’s nearby barbershop after he escorted her there when she became unwell from the drugs. She was observed conversing with him as he gently touched her hair and used a hairdryer on her face, feigning a hair styling session. Subsequently, the victim appeared to lose consciousness, her head falling back in the chair. Baki then carried the incapacitated woman to the back of the shop, where he committed the assault, as reported by the Daily Record.

During the trial, it was revealed that earlier that evening, Baki had drugged and sexually assaulted another woman by slipping an unknown substance into her drink. CCTV footage showed the woman becoming unwell, struggling to move and remain alert before collapsing. Concerned members of the public later intervened to help the victim away from Baki.

Baki received an 11-year extended sentence, with nine years to be served in prison, at the High Court in Kilmarnock for his convictions of rape and sexual assault. He was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, and a non-harassment order was issued indefinitely.

Fiona Kirkby, Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, emphasized, “Kenan Baki represents a significant threat to women due to his sexually deviant and predatory behaviors. The prosecution demonstrated that he targeted these two women, deliberately drugging them to exploit their vulnerability.”

“His accountability for these abhorrent actions should serve as a strong message to those who aim to cause sexual harm. Victims of similar offenses are encouraged to come forward and share their experiences when they are ready and able. Our trauma-informed team is committed to listening and supporting individuals affected by such crimes as we strive to pursue justice using all available means.”

A total of 168 cases of drink spiking were reported to police in Scotland between 2023 and 2024. However, only nine of these cases were forwarded to the Crown Office, with the rest considered to lack sufficient evidence.

In Scotland, drink spiking is not categorized as a distinct criminal offense. Instead, such incidents are treated as instances of drugging, where individuals are administered substances without their knowledge, or are prosecuted under the Sexual Offences Act.
