Declan Queally and Nico de Boinville have resolved their altercation following Queally’s claim that De Boinville directed a racially abusive comment at him during the Cheltenham Festival. The incident occurred during the Turners Novices’ Hurdle, the opening race on the second day of the festival, as the riders jostled for position amidst a large field, resulting in two false starts before the race commenced. De Boinville finished second on Act Of Innocence, with Queally coming in fifth on I’ll Sort That.
Following the race, tensions escalated, with Queally expressing his displeasure at De Boinville’s behavior, labeling it as abusive. De Boinville responded by suggesting Queally reflect on his own actions. Queally later alleged that the comments made by De Boinville were racially motivated and reported the incident to the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) stewards. De Boinville declined to provide a response when contacted.
However, the situation has now been resolved, as both Queally and De Boinville confirmed in an interview with ITV after The Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle on the following day. The two riders shook hands and exchanged words, expressing forgiveness and well wishes for each other. Former Champion Jockey AP McCoy commended their resolution.
The duo concluded their reconciliation with a handshake before preparing for the next race, The Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle. The incident serves as a reminder of the intensity and emotions that can arise in competitive horse racing events.
