“Chemist Behind “Mother of Satan” Bomb Plot Seeks Early Release”

Date:

An individual with a background in chemistry, who had schemed to carry out a bomb attack known as the “Mother of Satan” plot during the Christmas period, is currently strategizing her release from incarceration after completing a seven-year prison term.

Rowaida El-Hassan, a former pharmacist at Boots, aged 33, was sentenced in 2018 following her connection with Munir Mohammed, aged 36, whom she met on a dating platform catering to Muslim individuals. Shortly after initiating their relationship, they exchanged videos depicting beheadings. Subsequently, El-Hassan amassed chemicals as Mohammed, aged 37, acquired knowledge on constructing explosives from an online manual similar to the one used by the Manchester bomber, Salman Abedi.

In 2018, El-Hassan received a total prison sentence of 17 years, comprising 12 years of imprisonment and an additional five-year extended license. Despite this, she is actively pursuing avenues for early release. Reports obtained from the Mirror disclose her reluctance to accept accountability for the offense.

Challenging a decision by the Parole Board that denied her release, El-Hassan argued that her denial was the primary reason for the refusal and failed to consider other factors indicating a decrease in risk. Additionally, it came to light that she had been clandestinely exchanging messages with Mohammed while in prison.

However, Barbarah Mensah, representing the Parole Board, rejected her appeal. Following their conviction for terrorism-related offenses at the Old Bailey in 2018, it was revealed that Mohammed utilized Facebook to contact an Islamic State leader.

The Sudanese refugee also acquired knowledge on bomb-making from a YouTube tutorial identical to the one used by the Manchester Arena attacker. Upon apprehension, he attempted to attribute blame to social media platforms for facilitating attack planning. Authorities suspected he was devising a plan to introduce ricin into ready-to-eat meals at a food processing facility supplying major retailers like Tesco and Morrisons.

Moreover, Mohammed gained access to an army base using a soldier’s pass that had been left in a vehicle. Initially sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years for plotting an attack with an online acquaintance, his minimum term was later increased to 21 years by Judge Michael Topolski, QC.

During his arrival in the UK in a lorry and subsequent asylum application in February 2014, Mohammed sought assistance from Labour MP Margaret Beckett due to prolonged delays in the immigration process.

Meanwhile, Mohammed was employed at Kerry Foods in Derby, engaged in producing sauces for supermarket convenience meals, and pursuing a potential relationship with a British woman he met online. Prosecution alleged his interest in El-Hassan, a mother of two and a graduate from University College London, was influenced by her profession as a qualified pharmacist, as indicated on her dating profile.

On her profile, she expressed a desire for a partner with whom she could connect on spiritual and intellectual levels. By spring 2016, the pair had established regular communication via WhatsApp and had met multiple times in a London park close to El-Hassan’s residence.
