A man has been sentenced to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in Chester last year. Declan Marno, 24, and the 18-year-old victim were at a friend’s house after a night out when he raped her while they were supposed to sleep on a sofa. The victim reported the assault to the police, leading to Marno’s guilty plea to assault and rape charges. Despite initially denying any wrongdoing, Marno admitted his guilt in court and received his sentence. Detective Constable Emma Flanagan expressed empathy for the victim, acknowledging the trauma she endured and commending her courage throughout the investigation. Marno was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
