“Cliff Collapse Rescue: Dramatic Operation in Cornwall”

Date:

A daring rescue operation took place as a cliff collapsed in King Edward Crescent, Newquay, Cornwall, leaving several individuals and dogs trapped. Coastguard teams and Devon & Cornwall Police swiftly responded to the scene, closing off the nearby footpath due to the extensive slide.

Dramatic images capture the path buried under debris, with rescuers leading a dog to safety along the cliffside. The Newquay coastguard search and rescue team reported the incident on social media, urging hikers to avoid the area as the coastpath was deemed impassable following the collapse.

Assistance came from the St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team, Newquay RNLI Lifeboats, Devon and Cornwall Police, and Cornwall Fire & Rescue. The rescue teams were alerted to the cliff collapse incident between the Fly Cellars and The Huers Hut, rendering that section of the coastpath inaccessible to the public for the time being.

As heavy rains from recent storms continue to impact the South West, flood warnings are in effect for Devon and Cornwall. The Environment Agency warns of high river levels due to saturated ground conditions, with more rainfall expected, prompting concerns of further flooding and disruptions in the region.

Another yellow weather warning for rain is set to begin on Monday afternoon, lasting until Tuesday morning, with the Met Office cautioning about potential additional flooding risks.
