A recent incident involving a passenger jet approaching Air Force One en route to the UK has been brought to light. The Air Force One Boeing 747 was flying over New York when Air Traffic Control noticed a Spirit Airlines aircraft on a similar flight path. While the two planes maintained a safe distance and were not at risk of safety violations, controllers promptly instructed the Spirit Airlines pilots to adjust their course.
The Spirit Flight 1300, en route from Fort Lauderdale to Boston, heeded the controller’s advice to “pay attention” and “get off the iPad,” changing its direction as directed. In the recorded audio, the controller is heard urgently instructing the Spirit Airlines plane to turn 20 degrees right to avoid a potential conflict with the 747.
