A young girl, Millie Rose Hedley, tragically passed away just one day after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Her mother, Kimberley Hedley, described Millie as a beautiful, loving, and kind-hearted child. The family is now raising funds to express gratitude to the nurses who provided care to Millie during her illness.
Millie had been experiencing symptoms such as bone pain and extreme fatigue for a year before her untimely death on December 22. Her family reminisced about her vibrant personality, which brought joy and energy to every room she entered.
Kimberley fondly remembered Millie as a spirited and caring individual with a love for singing, dancing, and dinosaurs. Despite her frequent illnesses and medical consultations, the true extent of her illness was only discovered when she was rushed to the hospital after exhibiting severe symptoms.
Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors revealed the devastating news of Millie’s cancer diagnosis. Despite the valiant efforts of medical professionals, Millie’s condition rapidly worsened, leading to her passing within 24 hours of diagnosis. Kimberley has chosen to raise funds for the medical team at Newcastle’s Great North Hospital in honor of Millie’s memory.
The family plans to embark on a fundraising journey from Newton Aycliffe to Benidorm and back, with the car being adorned with messages of support. They also aim to raise awareness about the symptoms of AML, including paleness, fatigue, breathlessness, weight loss, and joint pain.
Friends, family, and teachers gathered in February to celebrate Millie’s life and cherish the memories they shared with her.
