“Concerns Surround Prince Andrew’s Trade Envoy Role”

Date:

Whitehall officials expressed concerns about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s performance as a trade envoy, according to recent disclosures. Andrew began his duties during Tony Blair’s administration following his retirement from the navy in July 2001. The appointment was approved by the then foreign secretary Jack Straw and trade and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt during the Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government in 2011.

As a trade representative, Andrew engaged in meetings with various UK and international business figures and foreign leaders, facilitating introductions. Despite being unpaid, he received support from civil servants and public funding for his overseas trips. Insiders from the former coalition government indicated that Andrew was widely perceived as a liability, with reports of his behavior causing concerns among officials.

Allegations were raised about Andrew’s questionable associations, with a British ambassador warning the government about his conduct as early as 2002. However, it took a decade before Andrew stepped down from his position due to mounting controversies, particularly regarding his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

Recently, on his 66th birthday, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office at his Sandringham residence, where he was subsequently questioned by authorities. Thames Valley Police later confirmed his release under investigation, concluding their search at the Norfolk estate. Despite denying any wrongdoing, Andrew’s arrest follows prolonged speculation about his connection to Jeffrey Epstein.

Efforts to reach Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and The Business and Trade Committee for comments are ongoing.
