A recently unveiled video footage from the night Jeffrey Epstein died shows prison guards near his cell, as per CCTV footage released by the Department of Justice.
Epstein is thought to have taken his own life between 10:30 pm on August 9 – the last guard check – and 6:30 am the following day, when his body was discovered during breakfast service. Despite reminders on their computers, guards neglected protocols for Epstein, who had recently been removed from suicide watch.
DOJ records indicate that Epstein required constant monitoring and a cellmate, with mandatory checks every 30 minutes. Roberto Grijalva, a correctional officer at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre, disclosed that he left explicit instructions for Epstein’s care, only to find them missing upon his return.
On the evening of his death, Epstein was left alone after his cellmate was moved. Grijalva remarked on Epstein’s calm demeanor and interactions before the incident. Moreover, he highlighted oversight leading to Epstein having inappropriate materials in his cell.
The case, officially deemed a suicide, has sparked speculation due to alleged negligence by guards. Reports suggest Epstein had links to the UK, prompting investigations into potential trafficking activities. Multiple police agencies are reviewing Epstein’s activities, including possible flights involving young women.
