Ian Huntley, the convicted child killer, remains in a serious condition after being hospitalized for six days following a violent assault at HMP Frankland. The 52-year-old was found in a pool of blood last Thursday, where he had been repeatedly struck over the head with a metal pole. The main suspect in the attack is triple murderer Anthony Russell, although official confirmation is pending. Huntley was immediately taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary and has since been in an induced coma.
Durham Constabulary provided an update stating that Huntley’s condition has not changed, and he continues to be in a serious condition. A man in his mid-40s has been detained in connection with the incident but has not been formally arrested yet.
Russell, who received a whole-life tariff in 2021 for multiple murders and a rape, is believed to have confessed to the assault on Huntley. Huntley, serving a life sentence for the murders of two schoolgirls in 2002, has been the target of previous attacks during his incarceration.
This incident marks the latest development in a series of violent encounters Huntley has faced while serving his sentence. The prison authorities are investigating the matter further to determine the full extent of the incident and ensure safety within the facility.
