A notorious convicted murderer in Romania, once considered a prominent serial killer, has caused renewed outrage by transforming himself into a social media influencer following his release from prison. Marius Csampar initially received a 99-year prison sentence in 1997 for six brutal murders, but in 2020, after serving approximately 22 years in prison, he was released on parole.
Since his release, Csampar has gained a substantial online following, with nearly 160,000 TikTok followers and over 23,000 YouTube subscribers. He frequently shares videos on these platforms discussing his past crimes and adjusting to life outside prison. Reports suggest that he earns a significant income from advertising revenue and donations from supporters.
Csampar’s criminal journey began with a troubled childhood after losing his parents at a young age. Living on the streets, he quickly turned to theft and robbery in Bucharest. His crimes escalated in the mid-1990s, culminating in a series of violent murders targeting vulnerable individuals like the homeless and elderly.
One particularly gruesome incident in 1994 involved the decapitation of a homeless man, with the head disposed of in a lake. Another victim, an 84-year-old woman, was robbed and fatally beaten on New Year’s Eve. Csampar reportedly admitted during police questioning that some victims begged for their lives before their deaths.
Despite his heinous crimes and lack of remorse, Csampar’s relatively short prison term and release have sparked public outcry in Romania. Criticism has intensified as his social media presence grows, where he openly discusses his violent past and experiences post-incarceration.
Controversy arose when Csampar commented on a recent murder case involving a 13-year-old suspect and suggested the suspect’s mother could be the next victim.
