A man who callously orchestrated a deplorable act of sexual assault, involving paying another individual to engage in sexual activity with a woman before raping her, has been sentenced to a 10-year prison term. However, despite the verdict, the perpetrator, David Morrison, is currently evading authorities.
Following his conviction for rape and sexual assault by penetration in August, Morrison, who is 44 years old, failed to appear in court on the day of his sentencing, prompting the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest. The court learned that Morrison had coerced the victim into a harrowing situation, where he callously introduced another man into the scene, instructing him to engage in sexual acts with her against her will.
Despite the victim’s protests and pleas for safety, Morrison callously proceeded to assault and rape her after the other man left the room. The victim, in her impactful statement to the court, expressed the enduring trauma and anguish she continues to face daily as a result of the heinous act inflicted upon her.
Morrison’s defense counsel highlighted that the jury had acquitted him of two additional charges, emphasizing his lack of prior criminal history and his professional achievements as an engineer. However, the court remained resolute in its sentencing, imposing a 10-year imprisonment term and issuing an indefinite restraining order to prevent Morrison from contacting the victim upon his capture.
The presiding judge condemned Morrison’s actions, particularly his absence during the sentencing proceedings, prolonging the victim’s suffering. Additionally, Morrison will be required to register as a sex offender upon his apprehension, further restricting his interactions and movements.
