Police are on the lookout for a convicted robber who managed to escape from custody. Daniel Boakye, a 21-year-old inmate at HMP Feltham, disappeared from a hospital in west London under the supervision of prison staff. Boakye, previously residing on Alma Road in Enfield, was given a sentence of six years and five months in prison in July 2023 for involvement in robbery conspiracies.
A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police informed the Mirror that they were alerted by the Prison Service shortly after 03:30hrs on Tuesday regarding the escape of a prisoner from custody at a hospital in west London. The fugitive, a 21-year-old male, remains at large as investigations continue. Law enforcement officers are conducting urgent inquiries to locate and bring him back into custody.
During a spree between June 2021 and January 2022, Boakye and three other teenagers carried out a string of robberies and attempted robberies in London, as reported by Essex Live. The group, armed with knives, coerced victims into surrendering their mobile phones and passcodes. Subsequently, they siphoned victims’ cryptocurrency into “hot wallets,” making off with over £115,000 in total. Additionally, they misused stored bank information for various fraudulent transactions, including purchasing top-up cards and paying for taxi rides.
Detective Constable James Green of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command condemned the group’s actions, highlighting that they targeted innocent members of the public while wielding weapons to steal mobile phones and digital currencies. Green emphasized the cowardly nature of the crimes, noting that the victims were wrongly portrayed as gang members despite being innocent civilians.
