A designer specializing in luxury hotel interiors has highlighted a crucial but often overlooked aspect in each room that can significantly impact guests’ experience. Tatiana Sheveleva, originally from Kazakhstan and now based in Toronto, Canada, boasts a 15-year career in luxury hospitality design, managing her firm, Chapi Design. Over the years, she has collaborated with renowned brands like St. Regis Hotels, The Ritz-Carlton, and The Luxury Collection, working on various projects worldwide, from Costa Rica to Toronto.
One of Tatiana’s recent endeavors involved designing for St. Regis in Cap Cana, Dominican Republic, emphasizing her preference for large-scale properties and bespoke designs. She stressed the importance of the headboard in a hotel room, noting that it often commands a significant portion of the budget due to its role as a focal point that complements the overall narrative of the project.
In addition to the headboard, Tatiana underscored the significance of the bathroom in leaving a lasting impression on guests. She highlighted that a well-designed bathroom layout can spark conversations and create a sculptural and distinctive space where guests can unwind and rejuvenate. The lighting in the bathroom, according to Tatiana, should cater to various moods, providing ample brightness for practical tasks while exuding a cozy and romantic ambiance.
Furthermore, Tatiana emphasized the importance of a comfortable mattress and bedding, along with thoughtful details like bedside glasses, to enhance the guest experience. She also recommended incorporating unique elements inside the closet, such as striking wallpapers or colorful accents, to add an unexpected touch that resonates with guests over time.
For Tatiana, the essence of her work lies in the exploration of different cultures and collaboration with diverse individuals. She finds joy in immersing herself in new locations and countries, drawing inspiration from vibrant cultures like Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Currently involved in extensive interior design projects for St. Regis in Costa Rica, The Luxury Collection Hotel in Mexico, and Luxury Hotels in Peru and Antigua, Tatiana’s work can span up to six years for a single project.
