Robert ‘Robbie’ Doerr, a revered firefighter in Evansville, Indiana, dedicated 28 years of service to saving lives and supporting his team. Known for his culinary skills, his meatloaf and chicken pot pie were cherished treats among his colleagues.
In addition to his commitment to the fire department, Robert, 51, was a devoted family man. Only six months into his marriage with Elizabeth ‘Becky’ Fox-Doerr, their blended family included Robert’s adult daughter and Fox-Doerr’s two sons and a daughter from her previous marriages.
Tragically, on February 26, 2019, after an extended shift, Robert was fatally shot outside his home upon returning from work. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving the community in mourning and Fox-Doerr a widow.
Investigations revealed that Robert was targeted with a unique weapon, a “hand cannon” known as a Taurus Judge model, using distinct ammunition. Suspicion fell on Larry Richmond Sr, a former convict and pawn shop employee, whose son had stolen the murder weapon and later confessed to passing it to his father.
Further investigations implicated Fox-Doerr and Richmond Sr in a conspiracy to murder Robert for financial gain. Testimonies and evidence pointed to an affair between them, with financial benefits from Robert’s death as the motive. Fox-Doerr’s son, Nathaniel Guthrie, played a crucial role in exposing their scheme, leading to their arrest and subsequent trials.
In a dramatic court case, Fox-Doerr was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, receiving a 90-year prison sentence. Richmond Sr, after a trial highlighting his suspicious activities on the night of the crime, was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without parole in February of the following year.
