Diane Morgan’s “Mandy” Holiday Special Rescheduled

Date:

The anticipated holiday special of Diane Morgan’s comedy series “Mandy” was unexpectedly postponed from the TV lineup just days before its scheduled broadcast, now rescheduled for this festive season. This unique episode, involving a storyline with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, was removed by BBC executives mere days before its original air date on December 22. Having been filmed during the series’ fourth season production in January 2025, the episode will be nearly two years old when finally aired.

BBC officials stated that the decision to pull the show was due to the need for certain updates, despite the episode being completed and ready for broadcast for several months. Speculation arose linking the decision to President Trump, who had recently announced plans to sue the BBC for $10 billion over the editing of his 2021 Capitol Hill speech for the program “Panorama.”

Although some believed the show was influenced by Trump, insiders clarified that the episode did not reference him in any way. The controversy coincided with the President’s defamation lawsuit against the BBC. The episode actually revolves around the fictional demise of Putin, where Morgan’s character, Mandy, allegedly eliminates him with a cheese wire. However, a surprising twist reveals that the victim was Putin’s body double, not the real leader.

Sources suggested that the BBC chose to avoid potential backlash, particularly from the Kremlin, by dropping the episode, as they were already in a dispute with a major global power. The network announced that the Christmas special, titled “The Mandy Who Knew Too Much,” has been rescheduled for 2026, declining further comments. The comedy was described as a humorous take on Mandy’s foray into international relations, promising to shake up the world’s power dynamics.

In a statement, Diane, aged 50, teased more of Mandy’s signature chaos and calamity in the fourth season, highlighting her character’s consistent ineptitude and lack of personal growth. She emphasized Mandy’s relatable struggle with undesirable tasks and incompetence that resonates with many viewers.

Comedies have a history of impacting global affairs, citing the 2014 movie “The Interview,” which provoked tensions with North Korea over its depiction of Kim Jong-Un’s assassination. The incident led to threats against the US and cyberattacks on Sony Pictures linked to North Korea.
