“Diners Fall Ill at Manchester Restaurant, Woman Describes ‘Biting Glass’ Sensation”

Date:

A woman described her distress when she lost the ability to speak and felt as though she was biting glass after falling ill along with other patrons at a dining establishment.

Emergency responders rushed to Dosa Kingss on Northenden Road, Sale, Greater Manchester last Saturday after 11 individuals fell unwell. Paramedics attended to the affected diners, with two individuals requiring hospitalization due to the seriousness of their symptoms. Greater Manchester Police reported that individuals were treated for minor reactions at the scene.

The illness is believed to have stemmed from the food served at the south Indian street kitchen and bar, with one diner likening the sensation to “chewing on glass” during the meal.

Amrita Kapadia, accompanied by her young son and family, was part of the first group of customers served at the restaurant. She was one of the two patrons rushed to the hospital after experiencing a burning sensation in her throat and mouth, leading to difficulty speaking.

Amrita recounted the incident occurring during a special event named the Onam festival, where all attendees were served the same meal simultaneously. She detailed how she and others at her table experienced a stinging sensation in their mouths after consuming a mixed vegetable dish called Aviyal.

Despite the frightening experience, Amrita’s son did not exhibit the same adverse reaction. Another table nearby, also affected, called emergency services for assistance.

Amrita expressed her panic during the ordeal, noting the swift deterioration of her condition. Following hospitalization and treatment, she spent four hours in the hospital and four days recovering at home. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing, with police presence at the scene for several hours.

Northenden Road was temporarily closed as authorities responded to the situation, initially considering a gas leak before ruling it out. The restaurant issued a statement on social media announcing its temporary closure due to unforeseen circumstances.

Dosa Kingss did not provide a comment when contacted for a response.
