A power failure led to a large-scale evacuation on the Disneyland Monorail, prompting individuals to disembark from the tracks. Approximately 60 passengers were required to exit the monorail near the Space Mountain attraction when it came to a halt. Anaheim police reported that emergency personnel used ladders to safely assist the passengers down, with no injuries reported.
An Anaheim Fire Department fire engine positioned beneath the monorail track extended its ladder towards the train, aiding passengers as they were guided down the narrow walkway to safety.
According to a Disneyland Resorts spokesperson, the monorail beam experienced a power loss on a Thursday afternoon, affecting two trains. By 7 pm, all riders had been successfully evacuated. A visitor stuck on the ride informed KTLA that the vehicle lost power at around 3:30 pm.
The Disneyland monorail traverses a 2.5-mile elevated track above the park, operating at 10-minute intervals. The route provides a 13-minute round-trip journey, passing by iconic locations such as Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Hollywood Land, the Grand Californian Hotel, and the Downtown Disney District.
Describing the monorail on the Disneyland website, it is noted as the first of its kind in America, blending classic 1959 styling with modern technologies and design updates. The system comprises the Red, Blue, and Orange Mark VII trains and operates on a 600-volt DC power source, ensuring no direct emissions into the environment.
Originally conceived as an attraction, the monorail evolved into a functional transport system by 1961, shuttling guests to and from the Disneyland Hotel. Following multiple enhancements over the years, the current fleet of train cars began serving visitors between 2008 and 2009.
In a separate incident in November 2025 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, the Monorail Silver encountered an electrical issue near the Grand Floridian Resort, resulting in smoke emerging between two train cabins. Fire crews promptly responded, extinguishing the fire and evacuating passengers from the suspended track. The disruption led to a temporary congestion as guests sought alternative transportation methods like buses, boats, and ferries.
