A passenger causing disruption and requiring restraint by cabin crew and fellow passengers fell critically ill on a Jet2 flight from Cyprus to Manchester. The man, said to be in his 30s, reportedly consumed a large amount of alcohol before boarding the five-hour flight from Larnaca with his girlfriend on Sunday.
Witnesses stated that the man had engaged in a heated argument with his girlfriend, leading to cabin crew relocating her to a different seat. Subsequently, he began acting disruptively, pacing the aisle, shouting at other passengers, and allegedly headbutting another traveler, as per reports from Lancashire Live.
Upon arrival at Manchester Airport at 2:25 am on Monday, several passengers restrained the man until police officers boarded the flight and discovered that he was unresponsive. The officers immediately initiated CPR and then requested a defibrillator. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the man was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Passengers on the flight were required to remain onboard and provide statements regarding the incident. One passenger described the atmosphere as panic-stricken, especially for children on the plane and emotional flight attendants. Another passenger recounted the escalating aggressiveness of the disruptive individual, leading to physical altercations and the involvement of multiple passengers to subdue him.
Authorities from Greater Manchester Police mentioned that an investigation is ongoing following reports of the disruptive behavior exhibited by the man towards passengers and crew members. The man, in his 30s, was restrained and subsequently hospitalized in a stable but critical condition.
Jet2 confirmed that flight LS966 from Larnaca to Manchester requested a priority landing due to the disruptive passenger incident. The airline stated that the passenger was taken to a hospital, refraining from further comments as the investigation continues.
