Donald Trump has received approval to construct a new security facility at his golf course in the UK. The 79-year-old US President is set to convert a lounge within one of the outbuildings at the renowned Ayrshire venue into a dedicated surveillance bunker, known as the Gatehouse. The plans for the Gatehouse include desk spaces, a toilet, and a cloakroom area.
Additionally, Trump’s Scottish resort will upgrade windows and doors and install a new access ramp. The current usage of the Gatehouse for staff accommodation will be transformed as part of the proposed changes, with other rooms like the kitchen, lounge, and bedroom undergoing refurbishment.
A statement described the project as the “Proposed sub-division and change of use of existing staff accommodation to form a security room, including replacement windows and doors with formation of new external accessible ramp.”
A recommendation to approve the proposals was made to South Ayrshire Council. The report highlighted that the alterations and change of use are within acceptable limits, align with the original property design, and are essential to the resort’s operations.
Turnberry, which Trump has owned since 2013, has been given a three-year timeline to complete the renovations. This decision follows a previous approval for enhanced security measures involving gate installations at various locations on the premises.
The initiative stems from an incident in March last year that led to vandalism at the resort, prompting security reviews in collaboration with Police Scotland. Trump last visited Turnberry in July last year during a trip to Scotland, expressing admiration for the country and its beauty.
