A man in East London, Richard Clayton, has pleaded guilty to the murder of his mother, Angela Clayton, after strangling her in their home in Newham. The tragic incident occurred on February 17, with Clayton later contacting the police himself.
Upon arrival at the scene at 12.48pm, authorities found the victim deceased in her bedroom. Clayton, who initially feigned sleep during police interviews, was subsequently charged with murder the next day.
In a court appearance at the Old Bailey, Clayton confessed to the crime. Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke expressed condolences to the family and emphasized the commitment to combatting violence against women and girls.
The victim’s family, in a statement, highlighted their pursuit of justice for Angela. Clayton is scheduled for sentencing at the Old Bailey on September 22.
