easyJet Family Holiday Index: Sardinia Ranks Top for Families

Date:

Planning the ideal family vacation can be challenging, as you seek a destination with stunning beaches and natural beauty that is also convenient and budget-friendly. Recently, easyJet unveiled its Family Holiday Index, ranking top destinations for families based on various criteria such as travel logistics, beach accessibility, cost, and family-friendly activities.

Among the top ten family holiday destinations, Spanish locations dominated six spots, with an Italian island securing the sixth position, often referred to as the ‘Caribbean of Europe’ due to its breathtaking beaches and pristine landscapes. Sardinia stood out as a top family destination for its abundance of beaches, family-oriented activities, and easy access from the UK through air hubs like Cagliari Elmas Airport in the south and Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport in the north.

Flights to Sardinia with easyJet start from £35.60 one way in May, with a travel time of two-and-a-half to three hours, suitable for families. Families can book holiday packages with easyJet Holidays, such as a quadruple room stay in Borgo di Campagna departing in May for £340 per person, with an additional £100 discount using the code SPRINGSALE.

Spiaggia La Pelosa, known as one of Sardinia’s finest beaches, offers a family-friendly environment with soft white sands and calm turquoise waters perfect for children. Access to this beach is controlled during the summer months, requiring advance booking and a small entry fee. Costa Smeralda, in the northeast of the island, boasts a luxurious coastline with upscale resorts, fine dining options, and designer boutiques.

For families interested in exploring beyond the beaches, Sardinia offers historical sites like Su Nuraxi di Barumini, a Bronze Age complex, and Cagliari’s Castello, a historic hilltop area with ancient buildings and museums. Children intrigued by the Roman Empire can visit the Roman Amphitheatre of Cagliari for a glimpse into gladiator battles and ancient executions.

Sardinian cuisine caters to all tastes, with street vendors offering Spianadina flatbreads during the day and authentic restaurants serving wood-fired pizza and fresh pasta in the evenings. The island provides a variety of culinary options suitable for even the pickiest eaters.
