“EDF Provides Free Fans and Energy Credit to Help Struggling Households”

Date:

EDF has launched a summer initiative to assist struggling households by providing free fans and energy credit. The company is introducing Heatwave Relief Packs, allocating £1 million to support vulnerable customers during periods of extreme summer heat.

Recent records show the UK experienced its highest June temperature ever, reaching 37.7C last month. With amber and yellow heat health alerts issued across England this week, temperatures are expected to reach 35C.

Approximately 10,000 EDF customers facing challenges in keeping their homes cool are eligible for support. EDF will identify these customers through support teams, trusted partners, and community organizations.

Joe Souto, EDF’s Director of Retail, emphasized the importance of assisting vulnerable households during high temperatures. He highlighted the dilemma faced by some customers who are hesitant to use cooling appliances due to cost concerns. The Heatwave Relief Packs aim to provide essential support without financial burden.

In light of recent price cap increases by Ofgem, energy bills have risen by around 13% as of July 1. The typical household paying by direct debit will see an increase from £1,641 to £1,862 annually. The price cap will remain in effect until October, with expectations of continued high bills.

Cornwall Insight predicts that households may face bills around £1,849 come October, coinciding with the return of heating usage as temperatures decrease.
