This came after Sir Ed penned a letter to Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch, and Nigel Farage, urging them to denounce Musk’s statements.
In his correspondence, Sir Ed expressed concern over Musk’s attempt to provoke discord and encourage violence, labeling it as a dangerous intrusion into democracy. Responding to Musk’s attack, the Liberal Democrat leader posted a picture of SpongeBob SquarePants looking unwell and sarcastically commented, “YoU aRe A cRaVeN cOwArD.”
Sir Ed had previously called for unity among party leaders in opposition to Musk’s divisive actions. He emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles and the rule of law in the face of Musk’s misinformation and incitement of violence, describing it as a reckless assault on these values.
The Liberal Democrat leader urged party leaders to present a united front and consider taking action against Musk. Emphasizing that individuals, regardless of wealth or power, should not be allowed to exploit their influence to fuel tensions and promote violence.
Over 150,000 individuals attended a rally in central London led by far-right figure Tommy Robinson, where Musk made a surprise appearance, demanding immediate governmental changes and urging protesters to resist or face consequences.
Business Secretary Peter Kyle criticized Musk’s remarks as confusing and inappropriate, but acknowledged the demonstrators’ exercise of freedom of association and speech as a testament to these liberties in the country.
