Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill has confirmed her participation alongside Kevin Sinfield in the Sheffield segment of his ongoing initiative to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Ennis-Hill, a resident of Sheffield, will run alongside Sinfield on Thursday as part of the ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge’s fourth stage.
Sinfield, who commenced his challenge earlier this week, aims to complete an ultra marathon daily for a week. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Sinfield has organized fundraising events for MND charities, having already collected over £10 million. The funds have been instrumental in establishing a pioneering center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.
The former England and Leeds Rhinos rugby star initiated these challenges following his close friend and former teammate Rob Burrow’s MND diagnosis. Sinfield’s relentless dedication has garnered global acclaim, with Ennis-Hill’s involvement adding significant support to raise awareness of MND.
Ennis-Hill, renowned for her heptathlon Olympic triumph in 2012 and three-time world championship titles, transitioned into a successful media career post-retirement from athletics. She serves as a patron for various charities, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield’s commitment to seeking a cure for MND remains unwavering, especially after learning about former England rugby World Cup winner Lewis Moody’s MND diagnosis. Moody intends to host a fundraising dinner in April and organize a charity bike ride in 2026.
