Cheshire Police have successfully located and apprehended a dangerous inmate who had escaped from HMP Thorn Cross in Warrington. The fugitive, identified as Kieran Cameron, aged 43, walked out of the prison on January 6. Cameron was serving a lengthy prison term of 23 years for an attempted murder that took place in Dorset back in 2016.
Authorities had issued a public appeal for assistance in locating Cameron, advising the community not to approach him. However, in a recent update, Cheshire Police confirmed that Cameron was found in the Hulme area of Greater Manchester and has been taken into custody. The police released a statement expressing their satisfaction with the arrest, stating, “We’re pleased to confirm that a man who absconded from HMP Thorn Cross has now been arrested. 43-year-old Kieran Cameron was located in the Hulme area of Greater Manchester by officers from the Cheshire Police Serious and Organised Crime unit.”
The incident for which Cameron was serving his sentence involved a violent attack in February 2016. Alongside another individual, Michael O’Rourke, Cameron had assaulted a 22-year-old man from Poole by stabbing him multiple times. The court proceedings revealed that both Cameron and O’Rourke had been facing threats from a rival gang and sought to shift blame by targeting the victim. The victim sustained severe injuries, including 10 stab wounds to the stomach, neck, and back of the head during the assault.
Detective Sergeant Jamie Halford of Bournemouth CID, at the time of the incident, emphasized the seriousness of knife-related violence, stating, “Violent knife-related crime is completely unacceptable, and this case shows that police and the courts will investigate and come down heavily on anyone carrying out such vicious attacks.”
The detective commended the prompt actions of bystanders who aided the victim and the medical professionals at Poole Hospital who provided essential care.
