Andrew Bustamante, a former CIA officer, suggests that Donald Trump might employ a strategic approach dubbed the “crown of thorns” with the help of a key Middle Eastern ally to destabilize the Iranian regime. Trump recently issued a strong warning to Iran, indicating that time for negotiating a deal on its nuclear program is limited, as US military forces gather in the Gulf region.
In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the country’s armed forces are prepared to swiftly retaliate against any aggression. Bustamante believes that while a Venezuela-style intervention in Iran is unlikely, the US still has options for pursuing regime change.
Bustamante, host of the EverydaySpy podcast, suggests a collaborative effort with a regional power to address the Iranian situation effectively. He proposes that the US could support Israel financially, with intelligence resources, to carry out targeted actions against Iranian leadership, such as assassinating the Ayatollah.
By partnering with Israel in this manner, the US could achieve its strategic objectives without direct military involvement. Bustamante argues that empowering Israel to take the lead in such operations would shift international scrutiny away from the US while still aligning with Trump’s goals for American influence.
According to Bustamante, the assassination of the Ayatollah is a more viable option than attempting to capture him, given the complexities and risks involved. He references a past incident involving the assassination of a Hamas leader in Tehran by Israel, highlighting the effectiveness of targeted actions in achieving desired outcomes.
In a separate incident, the Israeli Defense Minister confirmed Israel’s involvement in the assassination, showcasing the potential effectiveness of such covert operations in achieving strategic objectives.
