A man who posed as a taxi driver to deceive a woman before sexually assaulting her has been given a prison sentence. Kelvin Ndoro approached the victim as she walked home after a night out, claiming his VW Golf was a taxi. Despite believing him, the woman in her twenties got into the front seat in the early hours of May 18 last year.
Instead of taking her home, Ndoro drove to a Lidl supermarket car park in the Midlands and sexually assaulted her. Ndoro, residing in Kings Street, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, admitted to the sexual assault. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on February 5.
The victim, who was walking home in Nottingham, was approached by Ndoro on South Sherwood Street. He then drove in the opposite direction towards the Lidl car park on Mansfield Road. Ndoro locked the doors, touched her leg, and suggested moving to the back of the car, as reported by Birmingham Live.
Seizing an opportunity to escape, the victim agreed and managed to exit the vehicle, seeking help from passers-by. Nottinghamshire Police mentioned that she hid and later sought assistance.
Ndoro was apprehended the following day at Toddington Services on the M1 in Bedfordshire. Detective Constable Rebecca Walker from Nottinghamshire Police expressed that the incident must have been terrifying for the victim, causing lasting psychological effects.
Walker further stated, “The victim’s swift actions helped her escape from the vehicle after being deceived into getting in just to go home after a night out. Ndoro’s actions were predatory, but officers acted swiftly to locate and arrest him.”
Following a strong case built against him, Ndoro had no choice but to confess. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register for a decade.
